West Bengal Judicial Service (WBJS)

The West Bengal Judicial Service Examination (WBJS) is conducted by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) to recruit Civil Judges (Junior Division). The examination process is rigorous, involving three distinct stages: a preliminary examination, a main examination, and a personality test (interview). A key feature of the preliminary stage is a penalty of one-third mark for each incorrect answer.

Candidates must be Indian citizens and have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a university or institution recognized by the Bar Council of India. They must also be enrolled as an advocate with a State Bar Council. The age requirement is typically between 23 and 35 years, with age relaxations provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST, OBC, persons with disabilities, etc.) as per government rules. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the Bengali language, though exemptions may apply for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali or who are from certain hill areas.
